DIY Deodorant (Lime, Lavender & Jojoba oil)
Have you ever thought about making your own natural deodorant? Ever since I started to really pay attention to the ingredients in the products that I buy for my personal use and my family, I have been choosing to go the non-toxic/chemical free route. I mean, have you read some of the ingredients in regular shampoos or deodorants?
One thing I have noticed, is that buying the chemical free/non-toxic products can be pricey sometimes. Especially, if you do not find the right product that would work for you and you end up having to buy a different one. I was in the hunt for a natural deodorant and I tried many different ones with no luck. The problem was, that either the smell of the deodorant itself was unsettling or it just did not agree with me at all! Granted, all natural deodorants are not meant to last all day long like a regular deodorant (since it does not have all those chemicals) but I still did not feel comfortable wearing it all day long.
My solution was simple, I just needed to make my own! I mean why not, right? not only is it super easy to make, but it is less expensive in the long run. And doesn’t it feel 100 times better knowing that you made it yourself? I think so too!
For this DIY Deodorant, you need:
- 1/2 tsp of Jojoba oil (coconut oil or sweet almond oil is okay)
- 1 tbs of Lime juice ( Lime essential oil or Lemon essential oil is okay)
- 3-4 drops of Lavender essential oil ( or any other oil you would like)
- Spray bottle ( a glass spray bottle would be ideal)
Now for the fun part, I used a measuring cup to add and mix all of my ingredients. It is very simple, takes less than 5 minutes. Once everything is mixed well, go ahead and transfer it to the spray bottle, give it little shake and done! It is that simple, faster than a trip to the grocery store!
I have been using this DIY Deodorant for about two weeks now and I am amazed by how well it works! Never thought something as simple as lime could be use as a Natural Deodorant!
A few things I would like to add is, I make mine fresh once a week, since I am using pure lime juice; I like keeping it fresh. The first time I made this, I used Coconut oil and when I stored the deodorant in the fridge, it solidified. Just something to keep in mind if you are using Coconut oil.
Also, if you would prefer to use Lime or Lemon essential oils, instead of pure Lime juice, that is perfectly fine. There are other DIY Deodorants that only use oils. I, personally, haven’t tried it, but I have heard it works just as good. If you use pure Lime juice, do not apply right after shaving your armpits, it will sting and avoid direct sunlight!
I am still testing other oils and fun recipes, but for now I am really liking this one!
Do you have any other ideas for an all natural deodorant?
